As the new editor of The Daxington Post, I am really looking forward to attending Just Dogs Live, Peterborough on 5/7 July 2019. It is our ‘home’ show, and given reports of previous years from Emma and Dolly, this is not one to be missed. Plus we get to sleep in our own beds!
The East of England Show Ground is a great space for dogs, with nice ‘proper’ paved areas providing easy access for individuals of all abilities, and plenty of grassed areas for dogs to walk on if it is really hot. That is essential, because we don’t want to burn our paws. There are also excellent facilities and various food outlets so nobody need be hungry. I am also told, the best ice cream in the world! But be prepared to queue!

On a fine summer’s day it is wonderful to wander around the show ground to take in the sights and sounds, while on a wet day the indoor arena offers a dry space, with just a few exhibitors and some show rings for dog show enthusiasts. Oh yes, did I mention that Just Dogs Live is run alongside the East of England Championship Dog Show? If you want to feast your eyes on the elite dogs of all breeds, then this is the place to do so. Dogs beware! Your human could fall in love with some exotic breed or another, as did ours when she first saw the Bracco Italianos. Now that may make you feel insecure, but fear not, you know they will be taking the Best in Show home….. you of course!
You never know who you are going to meet at just Dogs Live. I mean, a couple of years ago, Emma stopped to flirt with a young dog, only to discover he was the very top Basenji in the country. And last year, Dolly rather fancied a certain Long Haired Dachshund, Mac, who was Best Veteran in his breed. These girls really know how to network, don’t they?
But enough of hobnobbing with canine nobility! Just Dogs Live offers so many exciting things to see, like the Tailwagger Display Team of why not try your paw at the have-a-go activities. There will also be flyball competitions and a fun dog show on each day. For health & fitness inspiration make sure you see the East Anglian Staff Bull Terrier Display Team, and you simply must not miss the wonderful Newfoundland Carting team. I know you will want to take photos, so bring extra batteries and SD cards, because we have only scratched the surface of what you can see and do at this wonderful event.
Of course, no show is complete without celebrity appearances and Just Dogs Live is no exception. Have you seen Marc the Vet on TV? Well, he’ll be there! Did you see Becky and Buddy on the One Show recently? Yes, they are coming too. And of course, my old pal from Britain’s Got Talent, Trip Hazard will be there with his human, Lucy Heath. As for Betsy Boo, the amazing Frisbee dog, who has won loads of accolades including 2nd place in the 2014 SuperDogs Live National Pet Show Most Talented Dog Final, well, you’ve got to see her in action! With all of this, why would any dog not want to give their human a great day out at Just Dogs Live?
I hope I have convinced you that Just Dogs Live is the place to be in a couple of week's time (July 5/7), because my sisters tell me it really is great fun and, of course, being girls they go with their credit cards at the ready in case one of the many trade stalls has just the thing they have been looking for! You know what girls are like! I have read the list of exhibitors, and reckon I'm going to need an overdraft too!
